The whole world is starting to smell fishy. In a world where war, terrorism and aggression are so openly taking place, we Japanese, who have been taught discipline and justice, are nothing but the exploited weak. I never thought I would be treated so unfairly even though I live my life honestly. Neither school nor my parents taught me that. We were raised to be kind and to lend a hand to those in need, and we were expected to be unique and individual, but we were also taught to read the atmosphere so as not to go beyond the same rails as everyone else. In times of emergency, we are nothing but wooden puppets who stop thinking. It has always been the same for guys like Giant to run rampant, and in the end, it is the strong who survive in human society. So, while violent people are only evil in normal times, it is reassuring to have them on your side in times of emergency. Human standards of good and evil change all the time. What about the old man? He is a devilish person who has repeatedly committed such terrible, shitty acts, but if he were to get into a fight with a semi-criminal group of anti-social gangsters, there may not be anyone more reassuring than him. A despicable person who doesn't think twice about breaking the law and will do anything to achieve his goal should be able to stand up to the unreasonable. However, unlike the feeling of relief you get from watching a movie in which a former CIA agent kills bad guys, the old man seems more likely to eliminate his opponents in a dark and unpraiseable way.
